John usually performs with his trio (piano/bass/drums) with some vocals. This combination is intimate, focused and spontaneous—and the setting in which John really shines as a pianist. This dynamic "little band" has a concentrated sound that is greater than the sum of its three instrumentalists.

John occasionally augments this core rhythm section with a female vocalist and/or a horn section for larger venues and to showcase "big band" type repertoire.
